Minister Tau Embarks on Strategic China Visit to Foster Economic Ties

Beijing: Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau has embarked on a significant working visit to China. The trip, which commenced today and is set to conclude on Saturday, aligns with South Africa's goal of market diversification and export growth.

According to South African Government News Agency, the primary aim of the visit is to sign the China-Africa Economic Partnership Agreement (CAEPA). This agreement will enable South African exports to enjoy duty-free access to the Chinese market and is expected to attract investment into South Africa. During the trip, Minister Tau plans to engage with various Chinese companies interested in investing in South Africa.

China has been South Africa's major trading partner for over 15 years. The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition highlighted the robust bilateral relationship between South Africa and China, which was elevated to an all-round strategic cooperative partnership during President Cyril Ramaphosa's official visit to China in September 2024.
