Minister Senzo Mchunu to assess the state of the Durban Heights Water Works

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr. Senzo Mchunu together with the Deputy Minister Mr David Mahlobo will meet with the KwaZulu-Natal provincial and local governments on Thursday, 09 December 2021 in order to further discuss possible solutions to water challenges faced in different parts of the province and also assess the state of the Durban Heights Water Works.

During the session, the delegation will also discuss Phase 1 of the uMkhomazi Water Project which will augment the Umgeni Water Supply System. The Umgeni WSS is the province’s main water supply system supplying water to the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, uMgungundlovu District Municipality, Msunduzi Local Municipality, and several other districts.

The meeting will also establish a Political Water Steering Committee (PWSC) which will provide policy direction and ensure accountability in the water sector within the province.

Minister Mchunu will then lead a site inspection at the Umgeni Water Durban Heights Water Works to discuss and assess issues on Friday, 10 December 2021 that led to some supply disruptions.
