Minister Mthethwa to Launch the Living Human Treasures Publications as part Heritage Month Launch Programme
The Minister for Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa in collaboration with the Gauteng Provincial Government will officially launch the 2022 national Heritage month programme on Friday, 02 September at Ditsong Pioneer Museum, in Silverton, Pretoria.
This year’s Heritage month will be celebrated under the theme, “Celebrating the Legacy of Solomon Linda and South Africa’s Indigenous Music”. The theme gleams the spotlight on isicathamiya music and its immense contribution to south African music landscape.
As part of this years’ Heritage month programme, Minister Mthethwa will also unveil five (5) Legends and Living Human Treasures’ publications in honour of the late legendary poet, Don Mattera; the living legends and music icons, Abigail Kubeka, Letta Mbulu, and Caiphus Semenya; and Peter Magubane, an iconic photojournalist, and a living legend.
The Heritage month launch programme will commence with a 2km cultural parade to showcase the country’s rich and vibrant heritage and cultural diversity. The parade will start at the Silverton mall and finish at the Ditsong Pioneer Museum between 12h30&13h30.
