Minister Kubayi convenes imbizo with communities of informal settlements in Khayelitsha

Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and Deputy Minister Pam Tshwete will convene an imbizo with communities of various informal settlements in Khayelitsha in the City of Cape Town, to provide feedback on the provision of basic services.

This forms part of post budget activities by Team Human Settlements and follows previous engagements and undertaking by government for coordinated efforts to intervene and resolve concerns raised by the community leaders.

As announced by the Minister during the 2023/2024 Budget Vote in Parliament on Wednesday, the Department of Human Settlements has in the medium term set a target to upgrade 1500 informal settlements, through the Informal Settlement Upgrading Programme (ISUP). Thus far, a total of 1269 informal settlements are at various phases of the upgrading process. This programme has immense challenges which we plan to overcome by entering into social compacts with communities and acquiring suitable land parcels to build houses for our communities.
