Minister Gwede Mantashe visits Mthimkhulu Centre and Housing for the aged in Mpumalanga, 28 Aug

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mr Gwede Mantashe (MP) will on Saturday, 28 August 2021, visit the Mthimkhulu Centre and Housing for the Aged in Lynnville, eMalahleni, Mpumalanga. The programme forms part of the Department’s Outreach Programme aimed at empowering mining communities and giving support to the vulnerable groups – the elderly, youth and persons living with disabilities.

 

The Mthimkhulu Centre and housing for the Aged was officially opened by the late Mrs Adelaide Tambo in 2005 to accommodate the elderly and persons living with disabilities. The Centre currently accommodates 23 people on full-time basis and provides food to 90 people who visit the Centre on daily basis.

 

The Minister is expected to be joined by the MEC responsible for Social Development in Mpumalanga, Ms. Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, the Executive Mayors of the Nkangala District and Emalahleni Local Municipalities, and senior officials of mining and petroleum companies operating in the District Municipality.

 

The Minister will hand over gifts to the Centre which are of need to the people who need the services offered by the Centre.
