Minister Fikile Mbalula leads Taxi Relief Fund awareness campaign in Mahikeng, 11 Mar

Transport Minister on a drive to encourage applications for Covid-19 Taxi Fund and accelerate road infrastructure development in North West

The Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula will lead a Taxi Relief Fund (TRF) awareness campaign in Mahikeng, North West.

The aim of the campaign is to encourage taxi owners in North West to apply for the Covid-19 relief funding set aside under the TRF scheme to assist the operators in the industry to mitigate the impact of Covid-19. The national Department of Transport would like to ensure that all qualifying applications are processed by close of the deadline.

Prior to the activation, Minister Mbalula will also visit the N12 road in Volmaransstad. He will visit the road with the intention to assess the state of the of the national road with the intent to hand it over to Sanral so that the agency can perform the maintenance work on the highway.

The Transport Minister will also conduct an oversight visit on the Labour Intensive S’hamba Sonke road construction site along the D933 between Lichtenburg and Geluskspan in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality. The project has seen the rehabilitation of approximately 15 km of existing surface road on the D933 by the provincial Department of Public Works and Roads. It is

The S’hamba Sonke programme, which has seen the department invest in the roll out of road mainly in the rural areas, plays a key role in supporting the South African Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan.
