Minister Creecy leads clean-up campaign ahead of the Presidential Imbizo in Mangaung, Free State

Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Barbara Creecy, and Deputy Minister, Makhotso Sotyu will lead a clean-up campaign in Mangaung, as part of the build-up activities towards the Presidential Imbizo, scheduled to take place on Friday, 08 April 2022.

In 2019 during the launch of the Good Green Deeds programme, President Cyril Ramaphosa called on business, labour and civil society to perform just one “Good Green Deed” a day. This could include any activity from recycling waste to cleaning up your community. The Good Green Deeds Programme, led by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment aims to promote environmental actions that take into consideration sustainable living practices. At the center of this campaign are principles of environmental justice, an understanding that becoming environmentally conscious starts with one small action, and one small action can go on to inspire a global change.

Friday’s clean-up campaign is also another platform for the Department to execute its Constitutional mandate of ensuring everyone’s right to an environment which is not harmful to their health or well-being; and to educate the community on how to keep their environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations. In addition, the event aims to promote efficient waste management and good environmental for the metro.

This is a joint outreach and awareness campaign with Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, the Free State Provincial Government and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE).
