The City of Cape Town’s Electricity Generation and Distribution Department carried out critical maintenance and upgrades to High Voltage electricity infrastructure in Milnerton. The City works on and maintains important electricity infrastructure on a daily basis in areas across the metro to ensure reliable supply to residents and local businesses. Today, 8 June 2022, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Councillor Beverley van Reenen and officials in the Department visited a main substation in Milnerton to check on work being done to the infrastructure.
This week, the City is carrying out critical electricity infrastructure maintenance in Hout Bay, Claremont, Mitchells Plain, Somerset West, Milnerton and Bellville, among other areas. Critical maintenance is carried out across the City on a daily basis.
‘Today, I visited the main substation in Milnerton to take a closer look at the maintenance work and associated upgrades being completed to High Voltage infrastructure. This work plays an important role in ensuring safe and reliable electricity supply to residents in the immediate and surrounding areas.
‘Our teams do maintenance in areas seven days a week and we thank them for their continuous hard work. Vandalism of City electricity infrastructure however remains a challenge for our teams in all regions. We ask residents to continue supporting us by reporting any suspicious acts to the South African Police Service and City. Community support has played a big role in curbing vandalism and we thank residents for assisting us,’ said Councillor Van Reenen.
*It is standard practice to notify customers of planned maintenance via a pamphlet delivered door-to-door ahead of work.
Please note: The City does not carry out maintenance from Stage 3 and above of load-shedding. Routine maintenance work is cancelled in the event of higher stages of load-shedding being implemented.
City’s Load-shedding Application is available
The City's load-shedding mobile app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
It keeps customers updated with the City's load-shedding schedule by adding their area or suburb via a map, their current location, or by searching the search box. Customers may view their area's load-shedding status and timetables, use the app to log service requests with the City or find vendors selling prepaid electricity.
