Men nabbed with house breaking implements linked to burglary cases

Yesterday morning, Umbilo police officers received information on a vehicle that had committed a robbery at Berea. It is alleged that the suspects threatened a security guard and robbed him of a remote control at a business premises in Berea.

 

The Umbilo Task Team spotted the vehicle with obscured registration plates travelling on Kerk Road in the Umbilo policing precinct. The vehicle was intercepted and a search was conducted. Upon searching the vehicle, police found house breaking implements such as a bolt cutter, crow bars and other items. Police also seized the remote control that was taken from the business robbery in Berea. Two pairs of sunglasses that were allegedly stolen from a business burglary at Glenwood Village Mall was also found in the suspect’s vehicle.

 

It is alleged that on 20 August 2021 at 06:00, the suspects broke into an optometrist surgery at the Glenwood Village Mall and stole a number of sunglasses. The same group of suspects then proceeded to another business premises in Mayville where they broke in and stole cigarettes. Three suspects aged between 20 and 28 were placed under arrest for being in possession of house breaking implements, burglary and robbery. The suspects will also be profiled to check if they are linked to other robberies reported in Durban and surrounding areas. They are expected to appear before the Durban Magistrates Court tomorrow.
