Polokwane: A 37-year-old police sergeant attached to the Limpopo Highway Patrol, Malope George Modiba, who lost his life in the line of duty about two weeks ago, was laid to rest in a dignified ceremony at Standplaas, just outside Polokwane, on Friday, 14 February 2025.
According to South African Police Service, the member was described as a loyal and respectful police official by those who worked closely with him during the 14 years he served the organization. His life was tragically cut short through an act of criminality. The suspect responsible for the heinous act remains at large.
The Provincial Head for Police Emergency Services, Brigadier Potgieter, who stood in for the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, delivered the eulogy. She thanked the Modiba and Salter families for allowing their son to serve the organization with passion, dedication, and hard work. Brigadier Potgieter assured the families and the community that the SAPS is working diligently to track and trace the suspect(s) responsible for the officer’s death, urging the community to cooperate with the police to combat crime in their areas.
The deceased was buried at Lebowakgomo Cemetery in a moving ceremony.
