In an effort to decisively deal with crime and promote accountability at the country’s police stations; which are the first point of call for many victims and survivors of crime. A Ministerial instruction has been issued to the South African Police Service (SAPS) to adopt a Police Station Focus based policing approach.

With this approach in mind, the Police Ministry will for the first time lead a series of visits to police stations as part of MINMEC activities.

The Ministers and Members of Executive Council (MINMEC) meeting is scheduled to take place in KwaZulu-Natal.

The two-day meeting starting on Thursday, 24 March 2022, will see the Police Ministry, members of the Executive Council (MEC) Head of Departments (HOD) for Community Safety and Liaison and Provincial Commissioners from all nine provinces, join the senior management of the SAPS to visit some of the stations identified as the biggest contributors of contact crimes in the province, especially in and around the Ethekwini Metropolitan Municipality.

The aim of these visits are for the MINMEC delegation to have a first-hand experience of some of the dynamics within the policing precinct that impact on service delivery; at the same time formulate immediate and long term interventions, as part of the Police Station Focus approach.

The delegations will visit the following police stations on Thursday, 24 March 2022.

  • Inanda
  • Phoenix
  • Verulam
  • Umlazi
  • Bhekithemba
  • Isipingo
  • Amanzimtoti
  • Plessislear
  • Pinetown
  • Chatsworth

Members of the media are invited to cover the visits, which will kick-off at 09:00 on Thursday morning.
