As the country edges closer to the November 1st local government elections, Minister of Police General Bheki Cele will on Wednesday 20 October 2021, visit the areas affected by political related violence in the Pietermaritzburg area.
Minister Cele will receive a full report from the Task Team investigating political related cases and will there after pay a comfort visit to the family of aspirant ward councillor killed in the Pietermaritzburg area. Michael Thulani Shangase was fatally shot on the 17th of October 2021 in the area of Plessislaer in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Kwanyamazane resident was returning from an Economic Freedom Front (EFF) campaigning meeting in Dambula in Herwood when he was killed.
Police are investigating the motive for the killing.
