Media Invitation: Police Minister and SAPS management visit Bityi in EC following massacre of seven mourners

EASTERN CAPE – Police Minister, General Bheki Cele will on Tuesday 22 November 2022, visit the area of Bityi in the Eastern Cape, where the shocking shooting of seven family members took place.

According to police reports, on the evening of Wednesday, 16 November 2022, three unknown armed men forced their way into a homestead and opened fire in the Tantseka Location, Sithebe Administrative Area in Bityi.  Six people succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the seventh victim died in hospital.

The victims are family relatives aged between 29 and 68, who were in mourning and arranging for the burial of their relative, who was fatally shot last week.

The Provincial Organised Crime Unit of the South African Police Service Police (SAPS) are investigating a case of murder.

Following a thorough briefing to the Minister about the multiple murders and other crimes in the area, Minister Cele and the management of the SAPS, will pay a comfort visit to the bereaved family.
