FREE STATE – The Free State Provincial Commissioner Lt. General Baile Motswenyane together with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial management will be launching Safer Festive Season Operations under the theme “More boots on the ground towards enhanced police visibility.”
Members of the media are invited to join the Provincial Commissioner and SAPS management on the launch of this year’s Safer Festive Season operations.
The Provincial Commissioner is expected to be accompanied by dignitaries including local councillors and members of Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (PROVJOINTS) and Community Policing Forum leadership.
This year’s plan for festive season operations entails six focus areas which will be prioritized by the SAPS throughout the festive season.
The first focus area will be to address the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide which include, intimate crimes committed against women, children and other vulnerable groups. This will include the tracing of wanted GBVF perpetrators, second focus area will be to intensify efforts to combat aggravated robberies, such as carjacking, robberies at residential premises and business robberies.
Thirdly the focus will be on enhancing border security which includes search operations on suspicion of stolen property being smuggled out of the country; illegal crossing of borders; human trafficking; drug trafficking; and tracing of wanted suspects.
The fourth focus area will be to enforce the legislation on the use of illegal firearms, Liquor, Second-Hand Goods including the safety of the sports and recreational events. The fifth and sixth focus areas will be on road safety.
