MEC Anroux Marais hosts 1995 Proteas Netball team, 4 Aug

On Friday, 4 August 2023, the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, will host players from the Proteas Netball team who won silver at the Netball World Championships in Birmingham, England in 1995.

This team made South African Netball history and three members of the team (Irene van Dyk, Marlene Wagner and Debbie Hamman) received the State President’s Merit Award from President Nelson Mandela in 1996 for their World Champs’ silver medal.

This is the first time that the team will be reuniting and they will be arriving from Australia, New Zealand and all over South Africa. They are traveling to Cape Town to support the current Spar Proteas as they compete in the Netball World Cup.
