Since joining the board in 2003, Stamatakis has been a pivotal figure in driving growth and securing critical funding for Philadelphiatourism industry, particularly during periods of economic recovery and challenges such as 9/11, the 2008 economic downturn, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his guidance, the city saw a significant rise in visitor-generated revenue, with $387 million recorded in 2023, marking a 50% increase from revenue during the 2008 recession.
Beyond his role with Visit Philadelphia, Stamatakis serves as Chair of the Board and Interim President and CEO at MISTRAS Group, and as Founder and CEO of CME Benefits Consultants. His broad expertise has bolstered Visit Philadelphia position as the city premier tourism marketing body, navigating leadership transitions and fostering resilience and innovation within the organization.
Mr. Anthony Conti, set to succeed Stamatakis, brings extensive financial and audit expertise from his distinguished 36-year career at PricewaterhouseCoopers and his civi
c leadership roles, including positions with Ametek and The Philadelphia Foundation. His collaborative work with Stamatakis has been vital in maintaining the financial health and strategic direction of Visit Philadelphia.
The organization will formally bid farewell to Stamatakis during his final board meeting in December 2024, celebrating his enduring impact and leadership. The Visit Philadelphia Board, comprised of 17 distinguished members, remains committed to enhancing the citytourism sector under its new chairmanship starting 2025.
