MANKWENG – A livestock awareness campaign was conducted by the Mankweng SAPS jointly with the Department of Agriculture including Transport and Community Safety on Tuesday 16 November 2021 at Ga-Mamabolo, Segopye village.
The event was honoured by MEC for Department of Agriculture, Me Ntalane and MEC for transport and Commumity safety Me Mavhungu Lerule – Ramakhanya, Capricorn District Commissioner, Major General Mashilo and Brigadier Tsebe, the Station Commander of SAPS Mankweng.
The awareness campaign was intended to sensitize the public about festive season safety tips and alertness of livestock in the public roads.
Lieutenant Colonel Mafokwane attached to the Provincial Stock Theft unit elaborated the significance of brand marking and preventive measures to avert being victims of theft of livestock.
Furthermore, Major General Mashilo cautioned the masses about the prevention of robberies which are targeting social clubs (stockvel) money during this period.
They were urged to utilize electronic transactions through banks, ATM’s, retail stores, money market rather than withdrawing large amounts of cash for distribution to the beneficiaries.
Lastly, the MEC for Safety and Community Safety, Me Mavhungu Lerule – Ramakhanya encouraged the livestock owners to keep away the animals from the public roads and put safety belts in order to be visible during the night to avoid repeated fatalities where families lose their loved ones.
