FREE STATE – A Stock Theft case was reported after SAPS members and a farmer followed up the tracks which led to the discovery of 70 cattle with six found slaughtered.
On the 4 February 2022 the livestock were inside the kraal at Ontevrede farm, Odendaalsrus and this morning, 5 February at about 06:00 the farmer found that seventy (70) cattle were stolen.
The incident was reported to the Lejweleputswa Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit. Warrant Officer Coen de Beer followed up the tracks together with the farmer. It took them eight (8) km from the crime scene to where the cattle were found, and they were identified by the owner. Sixty four (64) cattle were found and handed back to the owner, six cattle were found slaughtered. Nobody was found at the scene and a case of Stock Theft has been registered for further investigations. Police launched a manhunt to trace the responsible suspects.
