WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to bring stability and combat gang related shooting in the Manenberg area led to the arrest of a 41 year old female, yesterday at about 16:45 in Johanna Court, Manenberg. Members of Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit followed up information of a firearm and searched the premises. A 9mm pistol with ammunition was confiscated.

Once charged the suspect will make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated matter members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested two suspects aged 23 and 25 for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Athlone last night. The members were busy with patrols in the area when they stopped a suspicious vehicle and searched it. A 9mm pistol with ammunition was found in the vehicle and the occupants could not produce a license for the firearm.

The suspects are due to make their court appearance in Athlone on Thursday.
