Man sentenced to life for rape

A 26-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his friend’s girlfriend.

On 1 January 2023 at about 11:50, the 18-year-old victim alleged that she was with her boyfriend from a drinking place going home when her boyfriend took her to his friend’s shack in Phase 4 to rest.

The 18-year-old was left alone and asleep in the friend’s shack while the two headed back to the tavern. Moments later, Lefa Michael Ramakau (26), who is the owner of the shack and a friend to the boyfriend, arrived alone at his shack. The complainant alleges that she woke up to a male figure busy on top of her but managed to push him off.

The victim dressed up and ran to her boyfriend, who was still at the tavern. She related the incident to her boyfriend and they both went to Bloemspruit police to open a case. The suspect was traced and arrested the same day.

The case was transferred to the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit for further investigation and was left in the hands of Sergea
nt Lucky Seooe who worked hand in hand with Advocate Azola Key from the National Prosecuting Authority.

The suspect was found guilty of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment.
