Man sentenced for attempting to bribe a Hawks official

Emmanuel Godimo Boroncho (33) was found guilty of corruption and fined R60 000-00 or five (5) years direct imprisonment half of which is suspended for five (5) years by the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 23 August 2021.

 

On 19 September 2020, Boroncho approached a Lieutenant Colonel attached to the Hawks Asset Forfeiture Section and asked her to release a vehicle that was caught transporting illicit cigarettes in exchange for R7500-00 and he was subsequently arrested.

 

Boroncho was out on R500-00 bail until he was convicted and sentenced. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

 

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Thobeka Jozi has welcomed the sentence and hailed the Lieutenant Colonel as a police officer of high integrity. “I am proud that there are still police officials who are incorruptible and willing to fight corruption by all means,” Major General Jozi added.
