On 21 August 2021 at 06:00, the Utrecht Stock Theft Unit together with a private security company acted on information received about six stolen cattle that were being transported to Gauteng.
The cattle were stolen in Newcastle and were to be sold at an auction sale in Vereeniging. Police proceeded to the N11 and the truck with cattle was spotted travelling on the same route. Two men were spotted in the truck with six stolen cattle and police officers intercepted the vehicle. One of the men managed to flee the scene but a 21-year-old suspect was placed under arrest. It was established that the cattle were stolen at two homesteads in Kingsley area.
The suspect appeared in the Newcastle Magistrates Court yesterday for possession of a stolen stock. The suspect was remanded in custody until 30 August 2021.
