Man expected to appear in court in connection with hijackings at Balfour and Greylingstad

Nelspruit: The police at Balfour have made a breakthrough in bringing to book suspects who were reportedly behind hijacking incidents in the area. These men and women in blue arrested a 42-year-old man, on 01 July 2022 in connection with a string of hijackings that have occurred in Balfour and Greylingstad respectively. The suspect is expected to appear at the Balfour Magistrates' Court today, 04 July 2022.

According to the report, on the said day police noticed a suspicious looking man at a hijacking hotspot in the area (Balfour) which is also used as a hiking spot. They asked him where he was headed to, he indicated that he resides in Siyathemba and was job hunting. The officers then drove with him to the area where upon arrival he pointed out the wrong house.

While there his cellphone was ringing off the hook and the police took it and found messages relating to hijacking incidents in the area and he was arrested.

Police cannot rule out the possibility of linking the suspect to other criminal cases.
