NELSPRUIT – A 25-year-old man is due to appear before the Standerton Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Monday, 16 August 2021, on charges relating to dealing in drugs. He was arrested during an Intelligence Driven Operation on Saturday, 14 August 2021, on the R23 Road, by members of the South African Police Service from the Standerton K9 Unit and Ermelo K9 Unit.
Reports indicate that the SAPS received information about a certain man who was allegedly in possession of drugs, boarding a taxi travelling from Gauteng to Mpumalanga. The members followed up on the information, conducted an operation and later spotted the taxi, a white Toyota Quantum which matched the description as provided. They stopped the taxi, searched the passengers, including the identified suspect and found him in possession of a parcel with drugs worth an estimated street value of R50 000. He was swiftly arrested and charged hence his court appearance.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has thanked the members for their resilience in rooting out drugs in the community and also welcomed the subsequent arrest of the suspect.
