Yesterday at 14h00 a police team from Hilton SAPS together with Security companies were performing their duties along the Hilton/Howick Road when they noticed a suspicious vehicle. When circulating the vehicle, it came up as stolen in Newlands East. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off resulting in a high speed chase. Three suspects aged between 28 and 32 were eventually arrested. One unlicensed firearm, ammunition and suspected stolen property were recovered from the suspects’ possession.
The suspects were taken to the Hilton police station for further processing. All three suspects were charged for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as also for possession of property suspected to be stolen. The motor vehicle has been impounded for further investigation.
The suspects will be appearing in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on Monday 15 November 2021, facing the same charges.
