Man appears in court for killing of crocodile

DURBAN – On 09 April 2022, police officers from the Hluhluwe Stock Theft Unit received information of a man who allegedly killed a crocodile.

Police officers and game rangers proceeded to KwaJobe in Hluhluwe where the team found the remains of a crocodile as well as the skeletal remains of various animals. The investigation revealed that on 04 April 2022, the crocodile was shot and killed at Budlwini area in Hluhluwe. Police officers also seized a firearm as well as ammunition from the suspect.

Police arrested Sphamandla Mhlongo (32) on charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition as well as possession of game meat. He appeared before the Ubombo Magistrate's Court on 11 April 2022 and the court released him on R500-00 bail. He will reappear in court on 06 May 2022.
