Man, aged 58, to appear in court for the murder of his son in Mphephu

Mphephu police in Vhembe district arrested a 58-year-old man for allegedly hacking his 33-year-old biological son to death on Thursday, 15 August 2024, in Maulama Village. The incident occurred during a domestic violence, related dispute.

Upon responding to the scene, police found the suspect outside and were informed by family members that he had been fighting with his son, whom he allegedly hacked with a spade. The victim was found inside the house with a deep head wound and was certified dead. The suspected murder weapon was confiscated.

The suspect was reportedly assaulted by the community before police arrival and was hospitalized. He was later discharged.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident, emphasizing the ongoing struggle against gender-based violence in the province. She appealed to the community to resolve differences amicably.

The suspect is expected to appear before Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 August 2024, on a charge of murder.
