A 37-year-old man was found guilty at Cacadu Regional Court.
During October 2017, the victim (28) was on her way home. On the way she was grabbed by the suspect and dragged to his house where he raped her and released her the following day.
A case of rape was opened and the docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Vuyo Nyaka who worked tirelessly around the clock during investigation. The suspect was arrested and was released on bail.
During 2019, while suspect was out on bail, he attempted to rape another victim and was re-arrested and Sgt Nyaka successfully opposed bail.
On Thursday, 21 October 2021, the case was finalized and Zuko Ngxabazi was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment.
The Chris Hani Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Zuziwe Magqashela congratulated the investigating officer and said she understand the complexity of the investigation and the challenges that he encountered. She extended her appreciation to the prosecution team who worked with the victim and investigating officer.
