Maitland Flying Squad members arrest suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm

CAPE TOWN - On Wednesday afternoon, 13 April 2022, members of Maitland Flying Squad received information about a firearm at an address in Grassy Park area. A house was searched and members seized a 9 mm pistol that was found hidden in the house.

Three suspects between the ages of 34 and 58 were arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspects were detained at Grassy Park SAPS and will appear in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 18 April 2022.

In an unrelated matter, a drug dealer will face court after he was arrested for dealing in drugs in Leonsdale, Elsies River on Wednesday, 13 April 2022.The 24-year-old was found in possession of 12 mandrax tablets and eight half mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash after Crime Prevention Unit members on patrols stopped and searched him.

In Kensington, a 16-year-old suspect, alleged to be a member of the Wonder Kids gang, was arrested early this morning, at about 01:45, on a charge of murder.

According to reports, a shooting incident occurred on 08 April 2022, at about 12:40, at a premises in Ventura Street, Factreton, Kensington. A 32-year-old man, alleged to be a member of the American gang group, was shot and fatally wounded. The murder was gang related. Sterling investigation by detectives led to the arrest of the 16-year-old suspect.

He is due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on 19 April 2022 on the mentioned charges.
