Maitland Flying Squad continues to rid the streets of prohibited firearms and ammunition

Police members attached to Maitland Flying Squad were busy with crime combatting activities on Friday 16 August 2024, in Philippi East policing precinct when they removed two prohibited firearms and ammunition from the streets during a single intervention.

The members were travelling on Stock Road when they noticed a stationary vehicle next to the road. The members approached the vehicle on foot with intend to offer assistance when they saw a pistol close to one of the two occupants. They opened the door and restrained the now disruptive occupants. They searched both men and in the process recovered two 9mm pistols with ammunition. None of the occupants were in possession of a valid licence to be in possession of the mentioned firearms. The members detained the two males, aged 32 and 34, for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The suspects will make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates’ court once charged on the mentioned charge.
