Long arm of the law catches up with the murder suspect

GAUTENG – The South African Police Service in Eersterust arrested a 26-year-old man for murder on Tuesday, 07 September 2021 at his hideout place, in Luluberg Street Eersterust.

 

On Friday 03 September 2021 at around 22:00 a 35-year-old man was killed in cold blood at Kanna Avenue Eersterust, after the suspect and his accomplice fired a barrage of shots at him and his friend. The victim was shot in the upper body and he succumbed to his injuries on the scene. His friend (38) survived the shooting and suffered serious gunshot wounds.

 

The police were alerted about the murder and they launched an investigation. Their persistent and meticulous investigation was able to pin point in the direction of the suspects and the community also flooded the station with calls about the whereabouts of the said suspects. Eyewitnesses also assisted in identifying the suspects.

 

On Tuesday 06 September 2021 at around 10:00, the police received a tipoff alerting them about the whereabouts of one of the murder suspects. The police operationalised the information and stormed the suspect’s hide-out in Luluberg Street. The suspect was arrested and detained for murder and attempted murder.

 

The detained suspect has since been linked to another attempted murder case where a victim was also shot at, but survived the shooting.

 

The station Commander of SAPS Eersterust Lieutenant Colonel Simon Matshwane Theledi thanked the community for working closely with the police. He further applauded the police for their swift reaction in apprehending the suspect. The police are continuing with investigations and are hoping to close the net on the other suspect soon.

 

The suspect is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate court on Thursday 09 September 2021 on charges of murder and attempted murder.
