Two suspects were arrested on Saturday evening after Lockdown II members deployed in Kraaifontein followed information about a minibus taxi that was hijacked in Klapmuts earlier in the day.
The suspects aged 31 and 43 were arrested after they were found in a residence where the vehicle was parked in Kraaifontein. A further search of the premises resulted in the discovery of several rounds of ammunition. The suspects will appear in court on Monday, 23 August 2021 on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and ammunition.
Meanwhile the same Lockdown II forces deployed in Strand on Saturday morning, seized two firearms and rounds of ammunition in a house they had searched.
A 38-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. An investigation into the ownership of the second firearm continues.
The effort of the members involved is commended as they create safety in identified communities.
