Littoral: Family demands arrest of son’s killers

A grieving family in Loum Chantier in the Moungo Division of the Littoral region has implored gendarmes of Loum to investigate and lay hands on individuals who beat their son, Tata Louis Marie aka Bobo to death on July 21, 2024.

Bobo whose mortal remains are in the mortuary pending burial on July 27, 2024 was beaten to death by a group of young men said to be his closed friends for allegedly stealing cocoa seeds in the quarter.

‘My son has never been a thief as they claimed. Let gendarmes watch the circulated video of my son being tortured carefully and identify the perpetrators. They should be arrested and locked up. Why will they kill my son?.’ The deceased’s mother said in lamentation.

Bobo’s elder sister explained that ‘ my brother dis not steal the cocoa seeds he was accused of. He was walking along the road when some two men on a motorbike who were being chased for the theft stopped and were talking to him before riding off. The youths spotted my brother talking with them and concluded he was an acco
mplice.’

Bobo’s death according to her was planned.

‘The youths invited my brother on Sunday to work in a cocoa farm. When he showed up, they said how they saw him with two other men stealing cocoa beans in the quarter. They pounced on him, paying deaf ears to his explanation. That’s how he died from the beatings, filmed and published on social media. My brother was not a thief as they called him’. Bobo’s elder sister added.

Gendarmes investigating the murder have succeeded to apprehend the two men on the bike who stole the cocoa seeds and framed Bobo up. Investigation continues to arrest all those identified in the video lynching Bobo.

In the meantime, relatives continue to mourn their son and preparing for his burial on Saturday July 27.
