The joint Provincial operation Basadi, is making waves in all the Districts of Limpopo. The female-led operation was conducted in the Capricorn District yesterday, 25 August 2021, led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Corporate Services Major General Christine Moralakadi. In attendance was, the Provincial Head of Operational Command Centre (POCC) Brigadier Dikeledi Mangena, joined by several other senior Police officers and members of the SAPS from all levels of command.

 

The police officers were joined by female law enforcement officials from other Government Departments and the operation was conducted through roadblocks including tracing of wanted suspects and raiding of liquor trade etc.

 

The operation commenced with a joint parade which was addressed by MEC of Transport and Community Safety, Mrs Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya. In her special message directed to all the members, MEC hailed the successes achieved since the commencement of the operation and that the citizens of this province should always feel safe wherever they see men and women in blue. In conclusion, she urged everyone to help fight against gender based violence and to refrain from engaging in criminal activities.

 

The Police units that took part in the operation include Flying Squad, K9, Highway Patrol, Mounted, Crime Prevention, Stock theft, VCIU, Provincial Communication and Liaison, Detectives, Legal Service, ORS, Corporate Services, Inspectorate and POCC, supported by Traffic Officials, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Labour, LEDET, Department of Health, Bargaining Council,CPF, YCOP and Community Safety.

 

The operation targeted hotspots areas in and around the City of Polokwane including heightened visibility in Westenburg policing area.

 

Major General Morakaladi later joined the roadblocks on the N1 South just outside Polokwane and another roadblock that was held on the N1 North Botlokwa.

 

The operations are still continuing.
