In partnership with the SAPS in Mokopane, the Provincial Corporate Communication in Limpopo represented by Sergeant Maphure Manamela attached to the Media Center, embarked on a radio awareness campaign focusing on the fight against scourge of Gender Based Violence and Femicide and the SAPS’s inventions to assist in the reduction of these incidents including increased engagement of senior police leadership and community as well as various stakeholders.
Sergeant Manamela was joined by Sergeant Mmadikgale Masingi today, Thursday 29 September 2022 at Mokopane F.M based in the CBD.
Sergeant Masingi further advised parents and guardians about the safety of their children especially during school holidays and to work with the police in fighting against criminal activities including substance abuse and child abuse.
In response to some of the concerns raised by the listeners regarding police response to gender- based violence and domestic violence cases, Sergeant Manamela said police response is very crucial, not only to protect women and children from violence, but also to increase the trust that reported cases will be taken seriously and survivors treated with dignity.
As the programme concluded, the listeners were updated about the upcoming Dialogue on Gender Based Violence and Femicide to held on Friday, 30 September 2022 at the University of Venda which will be attended by different stakeholders including Limpopo Department of Social Development led by the member of Executive Council Dr Namane Dickson, Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi and her management, the Station Commander of the top 20 stations whose precincts contribute to the high number of GBVF cases, the Academia, Religious groups and other stakeholders.
The members also addressed partnership policing, stock theft, illegal mining and TRIO crimes such as robbery and hijackings. The contact numbers of the management of police station was shared with the listeners.
