In an important step towards enhancing safety at the University of Limpopo, members of the Limpopo Men for Change and Women’s Network attended a two-day dialogue focused on campus security. The event brought together diverse stakeholders, including law enforcement and community leaders, to discuss and implement strategies for creating a safer environment for students and staff.

Representing the Limpopo Men for Change and Women’s Network were Captain Maleka, the Provincial Deputy Chairperson; Lieutenant Colonel Lamola, the Provincial Women’s Network Chairperson; and Captain Magoro, the Provincial Components Chairperson. Their presence underscored the commitment of the network to address safety concerns and foster a collaborative approach to community well-being.

The dialogue was officially launched by Cllr J Pemma, the MMC for Community Services in Polokwane Municipality. Cllr Pemma emphasized the importance of collaboration among various entities to ensure the safety and security of all individuals on camp
us. ‘The establishment of the Campus Safety Committee is a significant milestone that reflects our collective commitment to safeguarding our students and educational environment,’ he stated.

The event was attended by several key stakeholders, including Brigadier S Shumane and Colonel Ledwaba from Divisional Policing and Operations, Brigadier Shirinda, the Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Moloi from the Provincial Inspectorate, and Brigadier Mathabatha, the Station Commander of Mankweng SAPS. Their participation highlighted the strong partnership between law enforcement and educational institutions in addressing safety concerns.

Other attendees included representatives from the Department of Justice, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), campus management, students, and various station commanders. This diverse representation underscored the necessity of a unified approach to campus safety, where every voice and perspective is valued in the conversation.

d on various aspects of safety, including strategies for crime prevention, emergency response protocols, and the importance of fostering a culture of awareness among students and staff.
