GAUTENG – Two suspects aged 60 and 38 are expected to appear in the Booysens Magistrates’ court today facing charges of fraud and corruption.
Authorities at the City of Johannesburg’s Group Forensics and Investigation Services (GFIS) received intelligence regarding suspicious fraudulent activities at the Ormonde Licensing Department, south of Johannesburg.
It is alleged that the suspects fraudulently registered driver’s licenses for clients without being officially examined by authorities for an enticement of R4500-00 each.
The matter was reported at the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in Johannesburg for further probing.
A sting operation was conducted yesterday by the Hawks and GFIS at the said office where both suspects, a female cleaner and male examiner were apprehended.
During the operation, police seized the R4500-00 entrapment cash, fraudulent driver’s licenses and electronic gadgets for further investigation.
