A group of 21 today received the nod for completing their Firefighting 1 training module after eight months at the academy.
The City’s continued investment in its Fire and Rescue Service was highlighted once more with the graduation of 21 Learner firefighters.
The group has successfully completed their Firefighting 1 training module.
This is the foundation phase for skills and knowledge requirements to join the service, including (but not limited to): firefighter safety and PPE building construction and property conservation fire dynamics fire streams and suppression search and rescue incident analysis
‘We welcome the new recruits with open arms. They’ve made so many sacrifices to get here, and will attest that it was not easy, given the level of competition to make the cut for our Training Academy. I want to extend the City’s hearty congratulations on making it this far, and wish them well as they settle into their careers. Cape Town is counting on you, and that is a massive responsibility. But, we are confident in the calibre of candidates selected to join our Fire and Rescue Service’s ranks, as well as the level of training provided,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
The new graduates will join their colleagues on active duty later this year.
For now, they return to the Training Academy to complete their Firefighter 2 module, which is a more advanced component including, but not limited to, vehicle extrication, more complex fires, fire scene operations, fire origin and cause, community risk reduction, etc. and a requirement for future advancement in their careers.
