Launch of the Festive Season Arrive Alive Campaign

The festive season is generally characterized by high traffic volumes including to the Eastern Cape therefore road safety as well as education and law enforcement must be intensified.

The 2022 Provincial Festive Season Arrive Alive launch was held on the N6 by the MEC for Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha.

The activities of the day commenced with a multidisciplinary roadblock that included different law enforcement agencies.

The role players included the Provincial and Municipal traffic, SAPS, Department of Transport, Emergency Services, Department of Community Safety, Guardmed and the (AARTO) Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences.

SAPS members from surrounding stations and units joined the acting District Commissioner, Brig Asogran Naidoo and his senior officers and the District manager for Community Safety, Mr Mathumbu during the day’s activities with MEC Nqatha and HOD Mafani and other law enforcement agencies.

Pamphlets on road safety, domestic violence and general safer festive safety hints were distributed at the roadblock. Motorists interacted with the different law enforcement members and appreciated the visibility.

During the launch the MEC mentioned in his speech that he was extremely delighted to be part of the launch and the day’s activities.  He added that ‘the growing concern is the rise in casualties on the road during the festive season period and that our focus must be on the prevention of the loss of lives. This is also a zero tolerance campaign and we need more intensified action against road users that does not obey the law, there must be consequences for those who break the law,’ added Mr Nqatha.

He also reminded all the officials to look after their own safety during this busy time of the year.

Road safety is a collective effort and he thanked all the different law enforcement agencies for forming part of the activities so we can all work together to make sure everybody “ARRIVE ALIVE”.
