Leader of the official opposition, McHenry Venaani, said late ambassador Hadino Hishongwa was a fine public servant who served his country with diligence.
Venaani made the remarks on Friday during a memorial service held in honour of Hishongwa at his homestead at Onekwaya West of the Ohangwena Region.
According to Venaani, Hishongwa was a visionary leader who saw the potential of young people to transform Namibia.
“He worked tirelessly to create a platform for young people to voice their concerns and to participate in the democratic process. He was a free spirit with a big heart, who was always willing to help others, and he had a contagious laugh,” he said.
Venaani further said Hishongwa's professional portfolios are indicative of his versatility, adaptability and above all the depth of his expertise.
“At a time when ethical servant leadership is being called for, this accomplished but humble leader is the example we all look to,” he added.
Moreover, Venaani indicated that he fondly recalled that Hishongwa had a great love for food, and was always up for trying new dishes.
As a debater, Hishongwa was known for his sharp wit and his staunch refusal to accept the views of the opposition and sternly believed in what he stood for and championed that cause with all his might.
“His passing is a great loss to Namibia, as he was a dedicated public servant who made significant contributions to the country. He will be remembered for his character as a principled individual who stood firm in his decisions, a kind and generous man, always willing to lend a helping hand where he could,” he said.
