Lane closures for Adderley and Riebeek Streets to accommodate sewer connection installation

Road users are advised of lane closures at the intersection of Adderley and Riebeek Streets in the Cape Town CBD as from Monday, 24 October until 13 December 2022. The closures are required to facilitate the installation of a sewer connection.

The sewer connection installation forms part of the Cape Town Station redevelopment. As such, the work is being undertaken by the developer. The connection will run from Adderley Street into Riebeek Street where it will connect to the existing sewer main.

The work will be implemented in phases from Monday 24 October 2022 until 13 December 2022, pending unforeseen delays. Lane closures will be effected to accommodate the work: also, some work may take place at night and during weekends.

The project entails the following:

trenching in Riebeek Street and Adderley Street, including across the MyCiTi bus lanes

installation of the sewer pipe

construction of manholes

backfilling and reinstatement of the trenches

The MyCiTi buses will be accommodated during the lane closures in a manner that will have the least impact on the service.

The developer will implement and manage the traffic accommodation measures to mitigate the impact on traffic as far as possible during the construction period. As is the case with all roadworks, residents and businesses in close proximity to the construction area will be impacted, as will visitors to the area.

Road users are advised to please consider alternative routes to avoid unnecessary delays.
