Pretoria: The South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that gate quotas will be implemented at Kruger National Park during the festive season to control visitor numbers and avoid overcrowding on roads and facilities.
According to South African Government News Agency, once the daily quotas are reached, only visitors with pre-bookings will be granted entry. Those without pre-bookings will have to queue, and their access will depend on the number of visitors exiting the park. Wild Card members are reminded that they are subject to the pre-booking administration fee.
Visitors are encouraged to book online in advance at to secure their entry. A non-refundable administration fee of R59 for adults and R29 for children applies, separate from the conservation fee, which is payable at the gate unless a valid Wild Card is presented. The quota system is designed specifically for day visitors; overnight guests are not affected. Pre-booked day visitors must arrive within their allocated time slots, with late arrivals treated as non-booked, receiving no priority access.
The park has outlined operational times for pre-booked visitors: Time slot 1 runs from 05:30 to 08:00, Time slot 2 from 08:00 to 10:00, and Time slot 3 begins at 10:00 onwards. Conservation fees vary depending on residency status, with South African residents, as well as Zimbabwe and Mozambique nationals, paying R134 per adult and R67 per child. SADC country nationals are charged R275 per adult and R137 per child, while all other visitors pay a standard fee of R602 per adult and R300 per child. Valid identification is required for fee verification, with South Africans needing to present ID documents or driver’s licenses and other guests required to show passports.
Vehicles without license plates or valid temporary license numbers will not be allowed entry or exit from the park. Any vehicle found inside without proper plates will be impounded, and the driver will face charges and fines. Ranger Services, the South African Police Service, and the South African National Defence Force will be present throughout the festive period to enforce compliance and prevent poaching.
Guests are reminded of the cash-free payment system at the gates and fuel stations in the park’s southern region, ensuring smooth entry and exit. Visitors are urged to adhere to park rules for a safe and enjoyable experience and to use the 24-hour emergency number provided on their entrance permit for any incidents. By following these guidelines, visitors help preserve the park’s natural beauty and ensure the safety of all its inhabitants. Planning and allowing ample time for the visit will enhance the overall experience.
