SPRINGBOK: The Northern Cape Provincial Management welcomed the sentencing of four accused for the killing of Khalil Ghazy (38) outside the Kekkel en Kraai shop in Springbok. On 1 February 2021 at approximately 10:00, the deceased exited his vehicle outside the shop when he was accosted by four suspects. He was robbed of a significant amount of cash, and when he resisted, he was shot and killed.
According to South African Police Service, investigations led to the recovery of the money, firearms, and ammunition, as well as the apprehension of six suspects in connection with the robbery and shooting. Charges were later withdrawn against one suspect, and another suspect passed away. On Thursday, 28 November 2024, the Springbok High Court sentenced brothers Rapaleng Brooks (27) and Ditiro Brooks (28), together with Ohentse Bless (34), and Stahls Mokoding (42) to 25 years imprisonment for murder, 18 years imprisonment for robbery, and 5 years imprisonment for illegal possession of ammunition and a firearm.
The
sentences will run concurrently. Detective Captain Harold McNeil was commended for his meticulous investigation that led to the significant sentence and ensuring justice for the victim of this act.
