K9 members nab five robbers after a high speed chase

WESTERN CAPE - Cape Town K9 Unit members arrested five suspects for possession of a hijacked vehicle, business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

On 30 August 2022, three unknown armed males robbed a local retail store at gun point in 5th Avenue, Grassy Park. They took an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe, cigarettes and chocolates and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.

On the same day, members of the K9 Unit spotted a suspicious vehicle at Weltevreden Road, Philippi. The vehicle had been hijacked and reported at Gugulethu SAPS. The suspects panicked and tried to escape with K9 members in pursuit. After a high speed chase, the suspects were arrested in the Nyanga precinct. They were found with two firearms and a bag containing money and cellular telephones. The suspects were positively linked to the business robbery in 5th Avenue, Grassy Park.

The five adult males were detained at Nyanga SAPS and the hijacked vehicle was recovered. They are due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on the mentioned charges once charged.
