JOE GQABI DISTRICT – The SAPS in the Joe Gqabi District joined learners at different schools as they stared their new school year with excitement and enthusiasm.
The SAPS endeavours include different activities from awareness campaigns on our Safer Schools programme as well as activities that include the searching of pupils and class rooms for dangerous weapons, drugs and unauthorized objects.
The schools visited today included:
Barkly East – Malikhanya SSS
Maclear – Mgwaxaza
KatKop-Tyeni JSS and Sterkspruit Luvumelwano SSS.
Principals and teachers welcomed the SAPS presence.
Learners were once again sensitized on topics such as bullying, crimes against women and children, sexual offences and drug and substance abuse. They were also encouraged to memorize important information such as emergency numbers and to use the buddy system and avoid walking and playing alone and outside or in public places. Never talk to strangers.
Parents were also present at the schools during which they were also requested to make sure that when they drop the children at school they are safe until they enter the school gates.
If you suspect your child to be missing, act immediately and report it to the nearest police station there is no waiting period.
At some schools the members from different units and the CPO’s and sector managers were joined by the Community Policing Forum (CPF).
The programme will continue during the month of January.
The acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Rudolph Adolph wish all the learners well at the start of the new school year. May all their dreams come true.
