Oshakati – A tragic incident occurred at Oshakati State Hospital’s psychiatric ward, where a 16-year-old boy, Karel Ndakolo, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Namibian Police Force community affairs officer, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, reported that Ndakolo was discovered unconscious by a nurse, with another patient jumping on his stomach.
According to Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA), efforts to restrain the violent patient required additional manpower, leading to the patient being isolated. Ndakolo, who had been admitted to the hospital on Monday from Onandjokwe State Hospital due to mental health challenges, was declared dead by a doctor soon after. Aiyambo noted that no visible injuries were found on Ndakolo’s body except for minor bleeding from the mouth and nose. An inquest into the incident has not yet been opened, pending the results of a post-mortem examination.
