Intelligence led operation nets four for unlicensed firearms

NAMAHADI – The Phuthaditjhaba Crime Intelligence driven operation netted four suspects in possession of four unlicensed firearms and ammunitions with the assistance of Phuthaditjhaba Public Order Police during execution at various Villages in Qwaqwa.

On 4 March 2022 an intelligence gathering was done surrounding proliferation of firearms in Qwaqwa, especially area of Namahadi wherein number of people gets shot and killed by unknown people during the nights. Information was received with regard to certain people residing at Katlehong, Marakong and Letshalemaduke Villages in Qwaqwa who possess firearms. The identified places were visited by Public Order Police Unit and searched the rented rooms of suspects in which three unlicensed firearms were found hidden in the mattress and suitcases. The three suspects are undocumented persons.

The fourth suspect was apprehended on the road at Letshalemaduke in his vehicle where a firearm was found hidden under the car seat. A total of 24 ammunitions and four firearms were seized successfully by police.

The four suspects aged between 30 and 40 are expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate court on Monday, 7 March 2022 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions.

The District Commissioner of Thabo Mofutsanyana, Maj General Jan Tsotetsi applauded members for excellent work by removing firearms from the wrong hands.
