Intelligence driven operation leads to arrest of three suspects and recovery of stolen cash

FREE STATE - An intelligence driven information was operationalised in Ventersburg after a post office was robbed and led to the arrest of three suspects with one fatally wounded.

On the 04 April 2022 at about 08:00 a joint operation was held after information was received about a planned armed robbery at Ventersburg Post Office. The following units were involved DPCI, Crime Intelligence, Tactical Response Team (TRT) and SAPS members of Ventersburg.

The SAPS members were ready for the planned armed robbery and when it was committed, the suspects were confronted. The suspects tried to run away with cash but three were arrested and one was fatally shot at the scene.

Two pistols with ammunitions and cash was also seized after being abandoned by the suspects who were cornered. A white sedan Datsun Nissan Go was seized and preliminary investigation revealed that it was stolen during December 2021 at Navalsig in Bloemfontein. The false number plates of Northern Cape were found on the stolen vehicle.

The three suspects will appear soon in the Ventersburg Magistrate Court.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Free, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane applauded the team and the community of Ventersburg for trusting the police with information that led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of firearms and cash.
