Summer is peak season for film shoots in Cape Town and with the season just around the corner, the Film Permit Office has enhanced its support to the film industry to ensure a successful season. The Office is currently monitoring approximately 50 productions.

The Film Permit Office is presently monitoring several productions,  including multiple local TV series, four international feature films and commercials for international clients.

Some of these will be filmed in Cape Town until the end of January.

New permit applications for the upcoming summer film season are also processed daily.

The Film Office has already issued 671 permits over the last three months, almost double the 375 permits dispensed in the same period in 2020.

‘This is a wonderful indication that there is an interest from international clients to bring their business to Cape Town. The local film industry, in conjunction with the Film Office, has put in a lot of work over the last year to ensure that our city is open, capable of undertaking big productions and that Cape Town is value for money.

‘The City, through Film Cape Town, has run a number of promotional campaigns and it is currently working with the film industry to further promote the film and television industry internationally.  We would like to urge residents to be supportive of the industry when they are filming in their neighbourhoods because this is a sector that creates thousands of jobs and contributes to the local economy,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.

The Film Permit Office will enhance its support to the industry this summer season, including the implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures for filming during the Covid-19 pandemic.
