ZWELITSHA – A man (35) and a woman (30) were arrested with illicit drugs worth over R250 000.00 after the drugs consignment was found in the vehicle they were traveling in on the R61 near Cradock last night.
On Sunday, 21 February 2022, at around 18:30, it is alleged that members from SAPS Cookhouse and Cradock POP Unit were patrolling route R61, when they received a notification of a flagged vehicle, a silver grey VW GTI travelling past Tarkastad turn-off towards Cradock direction, and members waited for the vehicle. Moments later, a vehicle was spotted and was pulled off the road. The two occupants granted permission for the vehicle to be searched, and 1 005 mandrax tablets and 450 grams of tik were found stashed in a school bag. Drugs with an estimated street value of R250 150.00 were seized for further investigation. A vehicle that belongs to one of the suspects was impounded. An application for the vehicle to be forfeited to the State will follow. The investigation is continuing.
The two suspects aged 30 and 35 were arrested, and are due to appear in the Cradock Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 February 2022, on charges of dealing in illicit drugs with an alternative charge of possession of illicit drugs.
Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier John Lebok said, “The advancement in technology is positively contributing towards crime reduction. Technology increases ways where suspects could be linked to crime scenes. Through advanced technology, a criminal’s freedom will be curtailed and they will no longer be able to run from the law’, added Brig Lebok
